Kingsmill’s: A Unique Store Rich with History

We’ll still see them in movies and old television shows from time to time, those grandiose department stores featuring multiple levels, high-end products and manually operated elevators. And in nearby London, Ontario, one of those rare examples of classic architecture still exists, a haven for shoppers who enjoy life’s finer things and tourists who appreciate a glimpse into the past.

Kingsmill’s, dating back to 1865, is London’s oldest and most respected department store. The four floors of the store, located at 130 Dundas St., offer a wide range of products including home furnishings, fine china and collectibles, fashions, cosmetics, linens, gifts, kitchenware, luggage and much more.

Will You Use, or Lose, Your Flexible Spending Account Funds?

The holiday season is upon us, and thoughts are turning to Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas morning, New Year’s Eve celebrations and much-needed reunions with friends and family. And in the mad rush to make sure everything is perfect, we often let other things fall through the cracks. Make sure you don’t do this with any flexible spending accounts that your family may have.

Workplace provided flexible spending accounts are very popular because you can save tax dollars and use the funds to pay for medically related expenses. In most instances, the funds must be used by Dec. 31 of the benefit year, and if you don’t use the funds, you will lose them.

First there was Black Friday, but who wants to stay up all night and battle unruly crowds? Then came Cyber Monday, but it’s difficult to get into the holiday spirit while sitting at a computer.

And now there’s Small Business Saturday, when shoppers are encouraged to avoid the mall scene and support local businesses. That sounds like a winner to the wide variety of vendors that will take part in the weekend long Kris Kringle Market, Nov. 29 through Dec. 1, at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, located at 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road in Amherst.
