East Aurora Co-op to Hold First Election: Seeking Candidates

One of the primary benefits of member-ownership in a cooperative is having a voice and being able to influence how the co-op functions and evolves over time. There are many ways member-owners may participate, from running for a seat on the board, voting for board candidates or serving as a volunteer in the election process. These opportunities, defined in Cooperative Principle #2, is democratic member control, and is what separates us from a typical grocery store.

The East Aurora Cooperative Market is pleased to announce that its first elections will be held this spring, and we are looking for candidates to fill three open positions on the board. We’ll also be looking for volunteers to assist with the process, including ballot counting and certification.

Read more about our upcoming election and qualifications for board members on our blog.

If you’re interested in running, we ask you to fill out the Board Candidate Application (downloadable from the blog) and email your completed application to the Nominations Committee no later than February 28, 2013.

Once the Nominating Committee has received applications, we will meet with the potential candidates and then submit the proposed slate to the board for approval in March. Next, ballots will be prepared and mailed to member-owners about a month prior to the annual meeting which is scheduled for May 16, 2013.
