A Growing School Results in a Growing Sports Program at Annunciation

Participation in sports plays an important role in a well-rounded education, and Annunciation School in Elma is pleased to report that its athletics program continues to grow.

Congratulations to our basketball teams for their hard work this season. We wish to thank our basketball coaches for their time and efforts. And congratulations to our girls’ varsity basketball team for winning their division!

A big thank you to Annunciation’s Holy Name Society, the Home School Guild and Chet Lewalski for their financial support toward the purchase of our new volleyball net system. Mr. Lewalski spearheaded the effort and we cannot thank him enough for all of his work on this project. Thank you as well to Jeff Tredo and Jeff Ulrich for their installation of the net.

Technology Advancements Continue at Annunciation School

Effective schoolroom teaching now includes the use of state-of-the-art technology, and Annunciation School in Elma is keeping up with the times.

Serving children from Pre-K3 through Grade 8 and located at 7580 Clinton St., Annunciation features a hands-on computer lab offering 15 computer stations in addition to scanners, laser printers and projectors. The computer lab also features an interactive SMART Board to enhance instruction and learning.

In addition to the computer lab, Annunciation also has SMART Boards in the fifth and sixth grade classrooms, and a SMART Table in kindergarten. Interactive Whiteboard systems and projector units are found in the first, fourth and eighth grade classrooms. Supervised Internet access is also available in every classroom.

College Planning Workshop Scheduled at Aurora Library

A free Comprehensive College Planning Workshop featuring a nationally certified college-planning specialist will be held at the Aurora Public Library, 550 Main St., East Aurora on Thurs., March 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Sat., March 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Sponsored by the Youth Asset Development Alliance of Western New York, the workshop will help parents of college-bound students understand the college selection process, factors that affect financial aid, and college cost reduction strategies. Call 580-1124 to register for one of these presentations.

ASDF Grant Will Fund New Softball Team at Annunciation School

Annunciation School in Elma will be adding to its sports program, thanks to a grant from the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame Amateur Sports Development Fund (ASDF). The $800 grant will be used to purchase equipment for a new girls’ softball team.

The ASDF has been providing assistance to area groups since supporting the 1993 World University Games. Funds are awarded annually to amateur athletes, teams and organizations seeking financial assistance to foster the pursuit of a higher level of athletic achievement. A portion of the proceeds from the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame annual induction dinner held each fall is made available to fund the ASDF.

Annunciation School Open House and Carnival Happening This Week

Just a quick reminder that Annunciation School in Elma will host an Open House and Winter Carnival from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the school, located at 7580 Clinton St. The event is sponsored by the dedicated and hard-working Annunciation Home School Association.

Bounce houses, games, cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn and pizza will ensure a fun evening, and tours will be offered for families interested in seeing the school and meeting the teachers. Registration forms for the 2011-12 school year will be available during the event.

Middle States accredited, Annunciation School combines traditional classroom teachings with creative learning experiences, Pre-K3 through Grade 8.

Sheriff Helps Annunciation Students Celebrate Reading Across America Day

Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard was a special guest at Annunciation School in Elma on Wednesday, reading books to a very attentive kindergarten class. Wednesday was Dr. Seuss’ birthday and National Reading Across America Day.

Located at 7580 Clinton St., Annunciation School will also be hosting an Open House and Winter Carnival from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10. Registration forms for the 2011-12 school year will be available during the event.

WSBU reaches top 10 in mtvU contest; online voting goes until March 1 to determine winner

 

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - WSBU, St. Bonaventure University's student-run campus radio station, is now one of 10 finalists for mtvU's 2011 College Radio Woodie Award.

A college-oriented member of the MTV family, mtvU first narrowed its list of 50 nominated college stations to 25 with online voting from Feb. 1-8, and then pared the list of 25 to 10 with voting that concluded Feb. 15.

Annually among The Princeton Review's top 5 college radio stations, WSBU now has a chance to be named the nation's top college station and be recognized at the sixth annual mtvU Woodie Awards March 16, airing at midnight on MTV, MTV2 and mtvU from the Austin Music Hall in Austin, Texas.

Listeners can vote online - as many times as they like - until March 1.
