Annunciation’s Health Students Visit Inner-city Clinic

Students in The Center for Health Science at Annunciation School today visited Kaleida's North Buffalo Medical Park and were able to experience first-hand how an inner-city health clinic works. It was an excellent and informative behind-the-scenes tour!

Located at 900 Hertel Ave. in Buffalo, the Medical Park specializes in internal medicine, dermatology and social work services. 

The Center for Health Science is an innovative two-year curriculum that offers students hands-on opportunities in a variety of health science environments. Among the supporters of the Center are Independent Health, UNYTS, Catholic Health and Kaleida Health.

Annunciation School to Host Seminar on Internet Safety and Cyber-bullying

Annunciation School in Elma, a growing Catholic elementary school serving children from Pre-K3 through Grade 8, will host a seminar titled “Protecting Our Children — Internet Safety and Cyber-bullying,” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, November 17, in the school gym. Sponsored by the Home School Guild, the event will feature Vanita Evans, community outreach specialist with the Buffalo division of the FBI. 

Annunciation School is located at 7580 Clinton St., Elma. The event is free and open to the public.

The Pittsford Central School District is the top-rated public school system in Upstate New York, according to new rankings issued Thursday (October 27) by Business First, a Buffalo-based business publication.

Pittsford, a district in suburban Rochester, earned the highest score among

431 Upstate districts in Business First's analysis of four years of standardized test data.

The runners-up in the new Upstate academic standings are No. 2 Fayetteville-Manlius (suburban Syracuse), No. 3 Brighton (suburban Rochester), No. 4 Williamsville (suburban Buffalo) and No. 5 Skaneateles (suburban Syracuse).

Annunciation Students Visit Buffalo General Hospital

Students participating in the new Center for Health Science at Annunciation School in Elma were given a lesson in lung function, learned some CPR training tips and were taught how to administer an injection during a field trip to Buffalo General Hospital on Thursday, October 20. This is the third health-related field trip for the student this year. Previous visits were to Rural/Metro Medical Services and Mercy Flight.

Popular Cheese Tasting Course Offered in East Aurora Community Education

Attention cheese lovers--past participants have raved about this chance to indulge their inner cheese lover with a tasting and evaluation opportunity sponsored by Sorrento Cheese and East Aurora Schools.  The cheese tasting journey will take place at the Old Orchard Inn in East Aurora November 8 and 15 led by Carl Moody, a NYS cheese judging champion and Quality Assurance Manager at Sorrentino’s Buffalo manufacturing facility. In a two night course participants will sample Italian mozzarella and provolone, French Brie and Emmental Swiss cheeses, and learn how production affects the quality of cheeses including cheddar, Roquefort, Parmesan, asiago and Romano.  

Mr. Moody will select wine samples to accompany the cheeses, and an optional third night will feature a plant tour of the Sorrento Manufacturing facility. Annunciation’s Center for Health Science Students Visit Mercy Flight

 

Seventh- and eighth-grade students participating in the new Center for Health Science at Annunciation School in Elma participated in their second field trip of the school year on Thursday, October 13. Students and teachers visited Mercy Flight Western New York, an independent, nonprofit provider of emergency air medical transport and supporting services.

Established in 1981, Mercy Flight has flown more than 19,000 patient missions, serving Western New York and Northwest Pennsylvania. Annunciation students toured the facility, met with Mercy Flight personnel and examined the various Mercy Flight helicopters.

Three members of the Class of 2012, Kendal Clarke, Christopher Klocke, and Benjamin Stortz, have been named Commended
Students in the 2012 National Merit Program.  Commended students placed among the top 50,000 of over 1.5 million students
who took the PSAT in 2010.
