'Applications and Resumes: The First Signs of Your Work' Info Session Planned Dec. 14

BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 8, 2011 – “Applications and Resumes: The First Signs of Your Work” is a free seminar to be offered Dec. 14 in Buffalo by Catholic Charities Department of Workforce and Education.

The seminar is the fourth in a series of various monthly informational sessions aimed at taking the guesswork out of preparing for a job or college.

Erie County residents 16 years and older are invited to attend any or all of the sessions. The seminar, which will focus on the proper way to develop a resume and how to complete both written and electronic job applications, is scheduled for 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Seneca Babcock Community Center, 1168 Seneca St., Buffalo.

The remaining seminars are: “Making a Sales Pitch: The Art of Interviewing” on Jan. 18 and “Rules of Workplace Success” on Feb. 15.

The seminars are designed to help individuals residing in Erie County who are 16 years and older, although there is no specific age limit to participate.

Do you know a girl who would benefit from an all-girls high-school education as either a day or a boarding student? 

Parents and guardians of girls currently in eighth grade are invited to attend Let Us Impress You on Wednesday, November 30, at Buffalo Seminary. Held from 7:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., the event is a chance for adults to attend an all-school morning assembly, visit academic classes, as well as meet Sem faculty, administrators and current students. Fr. Joe Bayne is Guest Speaker at Annunciation

Fr. Joe Bayne, OFM, executive director of The Franciscan Center, a haven for youth and family located in South Buffalo, was guest speaker at The Center for Health Science at Annunciation School in Elma on Nov. 17. Father Joe spoke on a variety of topics, from bullying to mental health issues. He also serves as Catholic chaplain for the Buffalo Fire Department. At the conclusion of his visit, the students filled his vehicle with items to take back to The Franciscan Center. The items were purchased through 7th and 8th grade fundraising activities.

Grease at Immaculata Academy

Immaculata Academy, located at 5138 South Park Avenue in Hamburg, New York, will be putting on the musical Grease as the fall semester performace. The all-girls high school will be singing and dancing to the familiar story line of Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski as they experience their senior year at Rydell High. Grease was written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey.

Annunciation Parish to Host Several Holiday Events

Annunciation Church and School, located at 7580 Clinton St., Elma, will host several free holiday events that are open to the public.

An Advent Evening of Reflection titled “Keep It Simply Simple” (amidst the frenzy of the holidays), will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, in Selbert Hall. Sr. Louise Alff, OSF, will serve as presenter.

The Home School Guild's annual St. Nick Craft Fair takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 4, in Annunciation School. The event will feature Christmas gifts, refreshments, a basket raffle, wreath sale and Christmas tree sale.

Andy's Weather Machine Food Drive Challenge is Back!

Students of Western New York, are you up to the challenge?

Once again, the Food Bank of Western New York and Andy’s Weather Machine are teaming up for the Weather Machine – Food Drive Challenge.

Register your school by Friday, November 25th to be entered into the running for a visit by Andy Parker and his Weather Machine!

It’s as easy as four simple steps:

  1. Register Online by clicking here.
  2. Once registered, begin to publicize your food drive.  Organize a collection area, make signs, mention the drive during morning announcements, send home letters to parents, and keep us updated on your progress.
  3. Bring all collected food items to the Food Bank of WNY on Friday, December 2nd.
  4. Watch Daybreak on Friday, December 9th to see if you are our Food Drive Challenge winner!
