Owner of Ooo La La honored by County Legislature

Erie County Legislator Joseph Lorigo recognized Crista Botticello during the Legislature's April 5, 2012 session. Owner of Ooo La La Boutique in East Aurora, Botticello was honored for giving back to her community through the creation of a scholarship program. Legislator Lorigo commends Botticello for her efforts.

The following proclamation was read during session and presented to Botticello:

I Hereby Certify, that at a regular session of the Legislature of Erie County, held in the County Hall, in the City of Buffalo, on the 5th day of April 2012, A.D. a resolution was adopted, of which the following is a true copy:

Hilbert’s Spring Open House Planned for April 28

Prospective students and families will have the opportunity to learn about Hilbert College’s educational offerings and tour the campus, including the college’s state-of-the-art academic buildings and housing options, at a spring open house set for 9:30 a.m. April 28 in the William E. 

Hilbert’s bachelor-level majors and more than 50 minors and concentrations, financial aid opportunities and career services will be discussed.

Advance registration is requested but not required to attend Hilbert’s spring open house. To register, contact the Office of Admissions at 649-7900 or online at www.hilbert.edu.

Hilbert’s Kenya Krew Collection Underway for Village Schoolchildren

HAMBURG, N.Y. -- A school outside Nairobi for girls who have lost their parents to AIDS and a school in Kaloleni, one of the poorest areas in Kenya, will receive much-needed assistance from Hilbert College’s Kenya Krew traveling to the African country in May.

During the nearly three-week international service learning trip, the student and faculty group will be involved in several hands-on community projects to benefit village residents, as well as distribute donated items to students at the Kenya schools they will be visiting. In preparation for this effort, a variety of school supplies and personal items for girls are being collected, including gently used spring/summer clothing, gently used Hilbert apparel, sports jerseys, coloring books and crayons, pens and pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers, nail polish, earrings, lip balm, and flip flops.

Annunciation School, located at 7580 Clinton St. in Elma, is currently accepting applications for Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 for the 2012-13 school year. Following the New York State core standards for preschools, the primary goal in Annunciation Pre-K is to have your child’s first experience in school be a positive and successful one! 

Pre-K students at Annunciation review colors and shapes and begin pre-math, pre-writing and pre-reading skills, and work to develop the social and learning skills that are important for academic success. Students also begin using sign language as a second language and enjoy art, music, library, computer lab and physical education.

Western New York Chamber Alliance to Host Educational Trip to China this July

Hamburg, NY – The Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and the Western New York Chamber Alliance are once again partnering with CITSLINC International to offer an incredible tour of China. For the first time, the trip is being offered during the summer months so teachers and students can visit Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai. This 9-day tour will be held from July 16 through July 24, 2012. The traditional autumn trip to China will also be available in October, 2012 for anyone unable to travel during the summer months.

Grisanti Announces Youth Job Fair For Erie County Graduating High School Seniors

BUFFALO, NY-MARCH 28, 2012-Senator Mark Grisanti (R-60) today announced his participation of a free Youth Express Job Fair at Erie Community College in Orchard Park.  This will be an opportunity for graduating seniors in Erie County to meet employers who have part-time and seasonal jobs available that are perfect for the summer or next year. High School Seniors will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of skills workshops along other essential ways to help procure employment.

Senator Grisanti's office will be offering  a power-point presentation for students.  The presentation will feature how to effectively search for jobs on the web, tips and tricks for making a good first impression, and a question and answer session.
