Annunciation Now Accepting Pre-K Applications

 

Annunciation Early Childhood Learning Center, located at 7580 Clinton St. in Elma, is now accepting applications for its 2014-15 pre-school program that will begin in September. Pre-K3 will be offered from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, while Pre-K4 will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Following the New York State core standards for preschools, the primary goal in Annunciation Pre-K is to have your child’s first experience in school be a positive, fun and successful one!

Teen Cancer Foundation Efforts to be Honored at Dinner

Kaely Kwitek and Daemen College alumna Maggie Dreyer of the Kaely's Kindness Foundation, which provides support to teens living with cancer, will be honored at the 2014 Daemen College Social Work Humanitarian Fund Dinner. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. March 28 at Hotel @ the Lafayette in Buffalo.

Diagnosed with cancer in 2012, Kwitek co-founded Kaely’s Kindness Foundation after recognizing a need for social, emotional and practical support for teen girls touched by cancer. She’s now majoring in business at the University of Albany.

Dreyer, who received a bachelor’s degree in social work at Daemen, is Kwiteck’s mother and serves as board president of the Kaely’s Kindness Foundation. Director of community based services at GA Family Services, she is on the Daemen Social Work Advisory Board and is an adjunct professor.

BUFFALO, NY – With the buzz of hair clippers and grins a mile wide, students and teachers at South Buffalo Charter School made life a little less this afternoon. It was all in good fun and all for a good cause. The school took part in its annual “Goin’ Bald for Bucks” fundraising event today, generating support for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Daemen’s New Master of Public Health Program to Begin This Fall

Daemen College has received New York State Department of Education approval to offer a master of public health degree beginning this fall, making it the only MPH program available at a private college in Western New York.

The new 45-credit graduate program, which will include specialty tracks in epidemiology and community health education along with a generalist track, is geared to working professionals and recent bachelor-level graduates looking to further their education in the growing field of public health. MPH graduates will be prepared for a myriad of opportunities at community-based, global health and managed care organizations, hospitals, health departments, and in public health research.

Annunciation School to Hold Annual ‘Luck & Laughs’ Event

Tickets are selling fast for “Luck & Laughs,” a night of fun, friendship and entertainment taking place on Saturday, March 15, at Michael’s Banquet Facility, 4885 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg. 

The event will feature the entertainment of Nels Ross of In Jest. A basket auction, wine giveaway, silent auction and other raffles are planned.

Dinner will include corned beef and cabbage, roast beef, pork tenderloin, pasta with pomodoro sauce, herb-roasted potatoes, vegetables, salads, rolls, coffee and dessert, plus beer, wine and soda.

Erie 1 BOCES Harkness Career & Technical Center has openings in their playgroup for children ages 2 to 4 years old. The Harkness playgroup is free and is held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Activities include art, music, story time, math, science and social readiness and a snack. With an excellent student to teacher ratio, the program doubles as a learning lab for high school juniors interested in early childhood development careers. Enrollment is available on a first-come, first-served basis. South Buffalo Charter School to Host Community Open House

Applications being accepted for new, state of the art K-8 building

BUFFALO, NY – South Buffalo Charter School is inviting community members from throughout Western New York to join students, faculty and staff for a community open house on Thursday, January 30 starting at 6pm. The event, which is being held in conjunction with National School Choice Week, will be held at the school, located at 2219 South Park Avenue in South Buffalo.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the school, which has been serving the educational needs of the community since 2000. In addition to presentations and information from students, teachers and parents, a number of community organizations will be on hand to discuss how they work with South Buffalo Charter School. Such groups include Tifft Nature Preserve, the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, the Buffalo Museum of Science, Prevention Focus, and others.
