The EAHS Envirothon teams competed on March 31 and April 28 against 15 Erie County high schools on topics which included aquatics, wildlife, soils, current events and forestry.  We entered two teams of five students each.  The Varsity team, composed of Charlie Border, Austin Beiter, Caitlin McGee, Kyle Spindlemen, and Rachel Tucker, came in third place.   Our JV team, composed of Elizabeth Bauer, Ed Crow, Kyle O'Brien, Zoey Spindlemen and Kendall Szafnicki, earned a first place in soils and a third place in forestry.    Congratulations to our students and their advisor, Jeff Shelley.

Director Ben Davis reports that on Saturday, May 14, the Middle School Symphonic Band participated in the Darien Lake Music Festival.  In a class of seven bands, the Symphonic Band earned 2nd place and a rating of "Superior," with a score of 96.8--only 1/4 of a point away from first place. Comments from the adjudicators complimented the balance and blend of the group, as well as the students' energy and attentiveness.

Katherine Hausauer, Class of 2012, became a member of the Ormsby Center's National Technical Honor Society on Thursday evening, May 12 at the Parkdale School Auditorium.  Nominees are recommended by the faculty, and exhibit the qualities of skilled workmanship, honesty, responsibility, leadership, citizenship and scholastic achievement

Megan Hulton, Class of 2011, was selected by Business First magazine as a "star" in the Sports classification.  Megan will be profiled in the June 10 edition of Business First.

Congratulations to the EAMS 5/6 and 7/8 Orchestras, both placing first place in their divisions at the Darien Lake Music Festival on May 13.  Special honors to the 5/6 orchestra, who also received the Grand Champion trophy for scoring the highest out of all other ensembles that day.

On Friday, May 20, 2011, East Aurora High School Jazz Ensemble placed second at the Springville Pageant of Bands, performing "Impressions" by John Coltrane, a ballad titled "I Hope in Time a Change Will Come" by Oliver Nelson, and "Trofeo de Bolos" by Craig Skeffington.  The EAHS Jazz Ensemble can be heard at the Kiwanis Chicken BBQ in Hamlin Park on Wednesday, June 8 between 4-5:30 PM.
