Elm Street Bakery is Worth the Drive

Alli and I really really love East Aurora….there I said it.  As city residents there’s an unnecessary shame in admitting that you really like the suburbs, or at least certain aspects of the suburbs.  No, were not planning on settling down and having 2.5 kids, but the small village of East Aurora is incredibly cozy with several restaurants and shops that we really enjoy, add bars within walking distance and we’re sold.  This last Saturday was our second visit to Elm Street Bakery, the first was an impromptu visit based on curiosity after hearing all the buzz about the place.  Unfortunately, we had dinner plans later in the day, so we limited our first trip to just two slices of their wood fire pizza but promised that we’d return the following week.  After we finished our second meal there this weekend, Alli and I realized we have found a new favorite place to eat.

For starters, the inside of the building has been beautifully remodeled.  While keeping the look of an log cabin/barn, the inside is covered in wood and is very warm and inviting.  The smell of fresh bread will immediately hit you when you walk through the doors.  On the left side of the building you will find their bread and pastry counter.  Filled with freshly made bread and a wide array of cookies, cakes and other delicious looking pastries, it might take you a moment to figure out what you want to order.  They also offer coffees, teas and juices.  In the middle you will find their large brick bar (pictured below) and you can watch pizzas being made (if you visit from 2 to 7pm, when pizza is offered) in their large brick wood-fire oven.  On any given Saturday I could easily spend several hours just hanging out at the bar (and I believe they do have free wifi).  Head to the other end of the bakery and you’ll find their cafe where you can order sandwiches, soups and other sides.  Here’s our recap of all the things we ate this weekend; I think some of the pictures are our best Food Porn’s this year.
