It's a fall ritual to get our homes, cars and even ourselves ready for the colder weather. How many of us, though, consider the impact of the changing season on our pets? Michele Dixon, a health and nutrition specialist with Petcurean, says there are simple things we can do to keep our pets healthy and safe through the fall and winter months. Here are some that top the list:

Pet Connection Programs Inc., a maternity and special care animal shelter located in Marilla, will host a Chicken BBQ and Yard Sale on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Marilla Fire Hall, 1950 West Ave. The yard sale will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a box sale from 3 to 4 p.m. The chicken dinner starts at 11 a.m. and dinners are take-out only. 

With chicken by BW’s Barbecue, dinners will also include mashed potatoes, and gravy, homemade noodle salad, Pet Connection’s famous cream corn bake, rolls and dessert. Dinners are priced at just $9 per person.

Many families are struggling to find time to sit down together for a meal these days so it may seem funny that more people are making time to bake treats for their pets. But pets are gaining status in the family hierarchy, according to a Harris Interactive study. In fact, more than 90 percent of pet owners say their pets are an official member of the family. Twenty-four percent say they frequently cook specifically for their pets.

Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village to Host Pet-A-Palooza

 

Wagging tails and wet noses will fill the trails at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village on Saturday, Aug. 24, as Pet-A-Palooza returns from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bring your dog along and shop for fun toys, treats and more. 

Pet-A-Palooza is a celebration of pets of all kinds, from dogs and cats to guinea pigs and reptiles. Brought to you in conjunction with Open Arms Rescue of WNY, visitors will learn about and visit local rescue organizations, and maybe even go home with a new best friend! Lectures and training sessions will also be available on-site, and the event will feature pet contests, raffles and prize giveaways.
