Living With Your Pet Without Unleashing Allergies

Living With Your Pet Without Unleashing Allergies

(Welcome to our pet column, courtesy of Pet Connection Programs Inc. of Marilla. We post a new article each week, so be sure to check back on a regular basis!)

Allergies no longer have to prevent pet ownership. By taking a few simple precautionary steps, it is possible to comfortably live with both pets and allergies. Here are a few helpful tips:

Shut the door. Keep cats or dogs from your bedroom — and not just when you are sleeping. If you keep the door closed, it will prevent cat or dog hair from drifting in during the day. This also applies to a guest room if you happen to be hosting a guest with allergies.

Keep pets off the furniture. You can do this by placing a plastic cover on the furniture or by placing pieces of aluminum foil on areas where pets settle. They find the noise disturbing.

Meet a Local Farmer: Jerry Miller

Meet a Local Farmer: Jerry Miller

by Sandy Szalinski

It was pouring rain when four of us from the East Aurora Cooperative Market dashed inside the red barn, where a sign read, “Established 1853, Miller Farm.” Jerry Miller, former banker turned farmer, greeted us with a coy smile. We immediately bombarded him with questions in order to get to know the man behind the flowers, vegetables, and eggs that his farm has provided the local community for the past 20-plus years.

Personal History: The Aurora Theatre

Personal History: The Aurora Theatre

by Kirke Rockwood

Visiting East Aurora this past October brought back many memories, especially of the Aurora Theatre.

We moved from Buffalo on Feb. 28, 1933, which happened to be my eighth birthday. I was immediately aware of the theater. In those days, the townspeople were very lucky as it was good entertainment during the Depression, and inexpensive. Tickets for children were just 15 cents and adults were 30. (Later during World War II, a tax increased them to 17 and 33 cents.)

2007 East Aurora Alumna Sarah Soroka Leads Daemen Into Division II Tourney

by Rick Ohler

I was beginning to think that Google had led me astray. I had searched for “Daemen College women’s basketball,” but when the site came up on my screen, it was obviously the Sarah Soroka website. The first thing I saw was, “Sarah Soroka Goes Over 2000 Points, 1000 Rebounds in Win Over Houghton.” Then “Sarah Soroka Named AMC (American Mideast Conference) Player of the Week for the 9th Time This Season.” Then “Sarah Soroka is Named AMC Player of the Year.” And so on.
