Broadway Actor Returns to East Aurora High School

From 1989 to 1991, the name Justin Gomlak could be found in programs for local school musical productions. The name may have changed – he’s now known as Justin Greer – but the East Aurora High School graduate’s enthusiasm for the stage is still strong.

Greer, a Broadway performer who has appeared in “Shrek the Musical,” “The Producers,” “Urban Cowboy” and “Annie Get Your Gun,” visited his old high school on Monday to meet with the students involved in the production of “Seussical,” which opens Friday. It’s a show close to his heart; Greer was part of the original Broadway cast.

Fisher-Price & DeamWorks Animation Reach New Agreement; Announce New Line

EAST AURORA, NY-- Fisher-Price and DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. announced Thursday that they have entered into an exclusive licensing relationship in which Fisher-Price will serve as the worldwide master toy licensee for a number of DreamWorks Amination's theatrical feature film releases and television series.

Under the Mattel brand, Fisher-Price will debut the first of its new toy collections for Kung Fu Panda 2 and The Penguins of Madagascar at Toy Fair 2011.

Police Remind Residents to Lock Up

There have been several burglaries and larcenies recently in the neighborhood of Balcom Drive and Adamwood Drive in the Town of Aurora. The East Aurora/Town of Aurora Police Department is encouraging residents to lock doors and windows when leaving their homes even for a short period of time. Residents should lock vehicles when parked in driveways and should not leave any valuables inside vehicles.

“Please report any suspicious persons, vehicles or activity immediately to the East Aurora/Town of Aurora Police Department at 652-111 or dial 911,” a press release noted. “The cooperation between residents and your police department is vital to deter and prevent this type of activity in your neighborhood.”

County's Minority Leader John J. Mills Announces Appointments to Reapportionment Committee

Erie County Legislature’s Minority Leader John J. Mills is proud to announce his appointments to serve on the Advisory Committee on Reapportionment which will convene later this month to develop, and formally submit, a recommendation on how to decrease the Legislature from 15 members to 11, and re-draw 11 district lines.

The announcement of appointees was made Wednesday morning, February 9, 2011. 

Students Pay Good Fortunes Forward

HAMBURG, NY - Several Western New York schools competed in a food drive contest during the month of December to benefit the Food Bank of WNY with the winning school receiving a visit from Andy Parker and The Weather Machine.

After weeks of collecting canned goods, on weigh in day the 400 students from Armor Elementary found themselves at the top of the food pile. They may have succeeded in winning the contest, but their giving had just begun.

Two Men Charged With Having Sex With 12-Year-Old

EAST AURORA, NY - Police in East Aurora have charged two men with having sexual relations with a 12-year-old girl.

Detectives say 19-year-old Robert Bogush of Amherst and 25-year-old Stephen Ziomek befriended the girl on the website myyearbook.com.  Both men allegedly had casual conversations with the girl, exchanged phone numbers, and made arrangements to arrive at her home in East Aurora when no one was there.

Bogush and Ziomek are charged with first degree rape and predatory sexual assault against a child.  Both are behind bars at the Erie County Holding Center.
