District Asks Village to Help Fund School Resource Officer Post

East Aurora Village Board members were nearly finished with their budget process when they learned that the East Aurora School District was seeking help in sustaining a police program while closing a gap in its own budget.

Mayor Allan Kasprzak told colleagues at an April 4 work session that he had received a call from Interim Superintendent Brian Russ. “The district is looking for the village to pick up more of the cost for the school resource officer in light of budget constraints,” Kasprzak said.

Trustee Ernie Scheer acknowledged the importance of that position, held by Officer Joe Ferrara. “It’s a valuable resource for the school,” he said, one that has been in place since an incident on Halloween several years ago, when a number of students had been involved in numerous infractions.
