Aurora Residents Learn About Dangers of Fracking

EAST AURORA, N.Y. -- A Town of Aurora Councilman says he didn't know much about fracking, the controversial natural gas drilling procedure, until recently.

Several months ago he decided he wanted to learn more, and Councilman James Bach hosted a talk Sunday on gas wells for those who were interested in the topic, especially those who might have wanted to learn more.

"They don't want to ban this, they just want to see that it's done safely," Bach said. "Is it being done safely yet? I think they're still investigating that."

Alarmed Wales and Aurora area residents gathered at the Aurora Town Hall to hear about potential "frack pits" in their communities, where toxic flowback fluid builds up from the process of hydraulic-fracturing, hydrofracking, or fracking.
