Time capsule found and opened at East Aurora Fire Department
News

EAST AURORA, N.Y. -- The East Aurora Fire Department opened a time capsule, that's been hidden for more than 125 years.

The copper box contained historic items from the past, including an old newspaper, Aurora Enterprise, from the 1880's. Coins were also found, as well booklet summarizing 'the constitution and bylaws' of the East End Fire Company.

The capsule was hidden from sight, behind a dedication plaque at the former fire hall on Oakwood Avenue. When the fire department was in the process of moving to a new fire station on Center Street, they unexpectedly found it.

Chief Roger LeBlanc said, "That is our history and I know a lot of our members are excited. "

But the time capsule had been opened before. In the early 1930's, a fire destroyed the old East End Fire Hall.
During the rebuild, workers found the time capsule inside the cornerstone. At that time, items were added to the copper box and the capsule was then returned to its original resting place.
