Daemen Associate Athletic Director Named to 30 Under Thirty

Jessica Gorski , associate athletic director for sport administration at Daemen College, has been named a class of 2014 honoree in Buffalo Business First’s 30 Under Thirty. The annual program recognizes young professionals in Western New York who are performing at high levels in the early stages of their careers, both at work and in the community. She will be honored with the rest of the 2014 class at a cocktail party and awards ceremony from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the USS Little Rock at the Naval and Military Park in Buffalo.

"I am honored to have been selected for the 2014 Buffalo Business First 30 Under Thirty class," Gorski said. "I have been presented with a variety of opportunities at Daemen where I have the pleasure of working among highly talented colleagues from the department of athletics as well as other divisions. I have enjoyed these opportunities as a learning experience and a form of professional growth."

She continued: "I am excited to be among such talent in this year's 30 Under Thirty class, and I look forward to the celebratory event and to have the pleasure of being among colleagues, family and friends."

Gorski, who resides in Amherst and hails from North Tonawanda, is a 2009 graduate of Daemen, holding a bachelor’s degree in English secondary education. She was a four-year member of the Wildcats' cross country team during her undergraduate years. She also holds a master’s degree in literacy from SUNY Buffalo State and is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in educational administration from Canisius College.

Professionally, Gorski was recently promoted to the associate athletic director post, which came after serving two years as the assistant athletic director for sport administration. In her current role, she is primarily responsible for overseeing the academic performance and overall development of Daemen's student-athletes. She also holds administrative oversight of the college's athletic facilities and the individual sports of men's and women's tennis and track and field, as well as men's golf. She serves on various college committees, including the Campus Care Team, Middle States Commission Reaccreditation Committee and the Student Affairs Committee.

Gorski also holds the title of senior woman administrator, an NCAA-mandated position that goes to the highest ranking female athletics administrator behind the athletic director. In this capacity, she encourages and promotes a variety of issues related to the part collegiate athletics plays in the lives of Daemen's female student-athletes through events such as the college’s celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. She also provides oversight of the college's plan for gender equity among intercollegiate athletic programs.

"It comes as no surprise to anyone who has had the chance to work with Jessica that she has earned this honor," said Director of Athletics Bridget Niland. "She is truly a standout person to have on our team. Her vision and poise set her apart as a young professional and we are so fortunate to have her here at Daemen."

In addition to her administrative responsibilities, Gorski serves as the college's head coach for men's and women's cross country. She has also previously been head coach of Daemen's men's and women's track and field teams.

The 30 Under Thirty program is sponsored by Business First and the University at Buffalo School of Management Professional MBA Program. Winners of the award are chosen from more than 100 nominations based on career achievements, leadership and initiative, community engagement and each nominee's potential to become a community leader on a grand scale.
