Meet a Local Farmer: Jerry Miller

It was pouring rain when four of us from the East Aurora Cooperative Market dashed inside the red barn, where a sign read, “Established 1853, Miller Farm.” Jerry Miller, former banker turned farmer, greeted us with a coy smile. We immediately bombarded him with questions in order to get to know the man behind the flowers, vegetables, and eggs that his farm has provided the local community for the past 20-plus years.

Most of us don’t know where our food comes from, and even if we’re lucky enough to buy from local farmers, we probably know little about how the food was produced, including the effort that was put forth to produce it in the healthiest way possible. In our endeavor to promote healthy eating and a sense of connectedness with the food producers in our region, the East Aurora Cooperative Market is beginning a series to shine a light on our local food producers: “Meet Your Local Farmer.”
