Work Your Spirit and Stretch Your Soul at Healing Waters

On Saturday morning, I opened my eyes to the early sunlight, stretched my arms, my legs, and my back – waited for the cracks to ripple through my joints in all the tight places, and then got out of bed to greet the day. I put on a comfortable cotton shirt and my favorite yoga pants, found my flip flops, and packed my yoga mat into my Corolla. With the radio on, I backed out my driveway, and danced in my seat to Marron 5’s “Good Life” as my Corolla and I cruised through the open back roads of the Southtowns to the Healing Waters Yoga Studio in East Aurora.

Quaker’s Landing To Hold “A Wish To End Alzheimer’s” Night

Quaker’s Landing; a memory care community located on Sterling Drive in Orchard Park, NY will be holding a special night in hopes to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. 

“This is a unique concept and we are hoping it will draw interest for those who have or had loved ones with this disease.” states Darlene Polak, Director of Marketing.  “The staff at Quaker’s Landing is dedicated to seniors who experience memory impairment and we are also committed in assisting the Alzheimer’s Association in any way we can.”

Geology Hike at Kenneglenn Nature Preserve

On Saturday, August 20, from 10am til noon, the Western New York Land Conservancy will be offering a hike through the Kenneglenn Nature Preserve in Varysburg.

Led by Stan Radon, this hike features views of the gorge walls and a beautiful waterfall. Please be prepared to walk in the creek with shoes that have great traction. This is a great family hike on a hot August day. Please register early as this hike fills to capacity very quickly. Hike leader Stan Radon has been a geologist with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for 20 years. He also teaches geology and environmental studies at SUNY Buffalo, Buffalo State College, and Daemen College.

BUFFALO, NY, August 12th, 2011 – The American Red Cross, Serving Erie & Niagara Counties is currently seeking volunteers for its Ombudsman Program, which provides advocacy services responsive to the complaints and problems of residents living in long term care facilities.

                An ombudsman is a dedicated volunteer certified to receive, investigate, and solve complaints made by, or on behalf of, residents in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and certified housing in the community.  Ombudsmen are assigned to a facility on a weekly basis to discuss problems, concerns, or to simply lend an ear when residents have something on their minds.  They monitor the quality of care, help protect residents’ rights, provide information to the residents and their families to ensure proper treatment, and to encoura

Obesity rates are dramatically higher than a decade ago. Twelve states now have obesity rates of 30 percent or higher, according to a recent report by the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention. With obesity a serious health threat, many families are on the lookout for ways to increase their physical activity levels. For families who own a dog, one helpful answer may be as close as their favorite furry friend. Walking and exercising with the family dog is an easy way to get moving, spend quality time together and get to know your neighbors.
