Pet parents may be surprised to learn that water accounts for 60 to 75 percent of a cat’s body weight. Cats tend to be water avoiders but, because water is so critical to their body composition, it is important to make sure that they stay properly hydrated. Water helps regulate a cat’s body temperature and plays an important role in helping them to digest food and eliminate waste.

Legislator Mills Invites Residents to Guided Walk of Chestnut Ridge Park

Erie County Legislator John J. Mills, R-Orchard Park, announces a free guided walk in Chestnut Ridge Park will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22. The purpose of the program is to encourage residents to be more active and healthy.

“This has been an amazing fall season for enjoying the outdoors and perfect conditions for Erie County’s Be Active Walks in the County Parks program. This Saturday’s walk at Chestnut Ridge Park is a great opportunity to enjoy the fall foliage and the park’s natural beauty,” Legislator Mills said.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Martin Lodge followed by the walk at 9:45 a.m.

Annunciation’s Center for Health Science Students Visit Mercy Flight

 

Seventh- and eighth-grade students participating in the new Center for Health Science at Annunciation School in Elma participated in their second field trip of the school year on Thursday, October 13. Students and teachers visited Mercy Flight Western New York, an independent, nonprofit provider of emergency air medical transport and supporting services.

Established in 1981, Mercy Flight has flown more than 19,000 patient missions, serving Western New York and Northwest Pennsylvania. Annunciation students toured the facility, met with Mercy Flight personnel and examined the various Mercy Flight helicopters.

Annunciation Students Visit Rural/Metro Medical Services

Seventh- and eighth-grade students participating in the new Center for Health Science at Annunciation School in Elma participated in their first field trip on Thursday, October 6. Their destination was Rural/Metro Medical Services located at 481 William L. Gaiter Parkway in Buffalo.

During their trip, students met with trained medical professionals who provided an overview of the company, visited Rural/Metro’s state-of-the-art communications center, and explored ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
