Erie County Legislator John J. Mills, R-Orchard Park, announces the return of free spring guided walks in County parks. The purpose of the program is to encourage residents to be more active and healthy.

“These walks were well attended last year and walkers were able to enjoy the County’s jewels, its parks,” Legislator Mills said. “This is a great effort to promote healthy family fun and learn more about how to stay healthy.”

Registration for all walks begins at 9 a.m. onsite. Walks have been planned at six County parks:

  • Saturday, May 7 at Chestnut Ridge Park, 6121 Chestnut Ridge Road, Orchard Park. Meet at the Casino.
  • Saturday, May 14 at Akron Falls Park, Parkview Drive, Akron. Meet at Cumming Lodge.
  • Saturday, May 21 at Sprague Brook Park, 9674 Foote Road, Glenwood. Meet at the Casino.
  • Saturday, June 4 at Ellicott Creek Park, Niagara Falls Boulevard and Ellicott Creek Road, Tonawanda. Meet at the Friendship House.
  • Saturday, June 11 at Emery Park, 2084 Emery Road, South Wales. Meet at the Fieldhouse.
  • Saturday, June 18 at Isleview Park, 796 Niagara Street, Tonawanda. Meet at Gazebo 2.

At these walks attendees will be able to learn more about how to get healthy and stay healthy, and receive health screenings targeting blood pressure and BMI. Assorted health education materials and smoking cessation services, products, and cessation program enrollment is available at each walk.
