Open House Planned to Celebrate 500 Member-Owners

In only 18 months and launching on nothing but a promise, the East Aurora Cooperative Market, Inc., has evolved from a topic of discussion over coffee among friends to an incorporated entity with an eight-member board of directors, nearly 50 volunteers and more than 500 members.  The first 500 member-owners, known as Seed Members, was a milestone reached on April 23.

To celebrate this 500-member milestone, a community celebration is slated for Wednesday, May 25 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the co-op’s business office, at 618 Main St. in East Aurora.

“It’s absolutely incredible to be where we are in such a short period of time,” said Sheila Conboy, president of the co-op board of directors.  “We knew there was interest in a co-op, but we didn’t know how far-reaching that interest was.  We couldn’t be happier, and we are so grateful,” Conboy said.  “It has given us the energy to continue working at this pace in anticipation of opening next year.”

All are welcome to attend the celebration, which will be an open-house format featuring kids’ activities, a raffle, door prizes, goodies to give away, and delicious food.  Board members and volunteers will be present to share information and talk about the co-op’s upcoming plans.
