Schools, Prevention Groups Unite to Address Adolescent Depression, Suicide

Several groups hope to shed more light on teen depression and suicide in an effort to offer parents more support.

"Out of the Darkness: A Parent Forum on Adolescent Depression and Suicide Awareness" will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Alden High School, 13190 Park St.

The event will provide parents with information about adolescent depression and suicide, including risk factors, warning signs and supports. Tips on how to talk to family members and where to get help, if needed, will also be shared.

Dog Ears Bookstore Plans Events for Kids and Poetry Lovers

Dog Ears Bookstore, a nonprofit neighborhood bookstore located at 688 Abbott Road in South Buffalo, will begin a new six-week “Puppy Tales” story time session on Friday, Jan. 13. 

Open to children ages 2 to 4, Puppy Tales runs from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Fridays for six weeks. Each session includes stories, a craft and snacks. Children must be accompanied by an adult. There is a registration fee of $15, and room for 20 children in the program.
