South Buffalo Charter School to Host Open House

New sections being added in grades 5-8 for 2015-16 school year

Parents and families from across Western New York will get a close-up look at the area’s newest K-8 school, when South Buffalo Charter School hosts an open house on Thursday, January 29 from 5-6:30pm. The event will give prospective students and their families an opportunity to tour the school and learn about the unique educational experience that students enjoy at South Buffalo Charter School.

Located at 154 South Ogden Street, South Buffalo Charter School opened its new school building in August, after operating at its former home on South Park Avenue since 2001. The new 100,000-suare-foot school features state-of-the-art classroom, lab, library, auditorium, and gymnasium facilities, as well as new athletic fields, offering students and teachers a complete learning environment that is second to none. Approximately 800 students currently attend South Buffalo Charter School.

Due to the positive response and high numbers of interested families, South Buffalo Charter School will be adding new sections in grades 5-8 for the coming school year.

“We see students at every grade level who come to South Buffalo Charter School eager and ready to learn each day,” said Brian Wiesinger, head of school. “Our school environment, from our remarkable new building and the educational opportunities it affords our students to the classroom interactions students enjoy with their teachers and with their peers, helps to bring out the personal and academic best in each student we serve.”

Applications are now being accepted for the 2015-16 school year, and all school-aged children are eligible to apply for admission.

A public charter school, South Buffalo Charter School fills open slots by public lottery. Chartered in 2000, South Buffalo Charter School was the second charter school to open in the Buffalo area. Today, the school educates approximately 800 students in grades Kindergarten-8, with a waiting list of interested students. In addition to its robust academic curriculum, the school places an emphasis on character education. South Buffalo Charter School employs a longer school day and academic year than traditional public schools and institutes a uniform dress code.
