Pet Connection Announces Special Events for August

Pet Connection Programs Inc., a special care shelter for dogs and cats located in Marilla, will be participating in several special events during the month of August.

Pet totes and other goodies will be available for sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, in the Walden Galleria in Cheektowaga.

Look for Pet Connection volunteers every day, Aug. 10-21, during the Erie County Fair in Hamburg. Volunteers will be selling pet totes filled with treats and other surprises to benefit the shelter.

Pet Connection Holding Dog Contests on July 30

Pet Connection Programs Inc., a maternity and special care animal shelter located in Marilla, will be holding a Dog Contest on Saturday, July 30, at the Lancaster Farmer’s Market, located in the Aurora Street parking lot between Broadway and Pleasant Avenue. Contests will include best trick, ugliest dog, and best dog and owner lookalike. 

Contest registration will take place from 8 to 9 a.m., with the competition beginning at 10 a.m. There is a $5 entry per contest, and great prizes will be awarded.

The Travel Channel will feature Buffalo, New York on its new television program, “Off Limits.”  Explorer and history buff Don Wildman is delving into the forbidden, hidden and unseen spaces across America.  The Buffalo, New York episode airs nationwide on Monday, June 27th at 9pm   

For over a century Buffalo, New York was a key player in powering America through the industrial revolution. Its natural wonders, like Niagara Falls, and its strategic location along the Great Lakes made it a powerhouse for the growing American empire. Host Don Wildman will get passed the gates, crawl into the dark tunnels and climb on top of its crumbling mega-structures to get a glimpse at Buffalo’s glory days. Just east of Buffalo he will unearth the ingenious engineering behind the Erie Canal.

Edible Buffalo is proud to announce the first ever New York Statewide Eat Drink Local Week June 24 through June 30, 2011, a restaurant week with a mission! With the harvest season in full swing, Edible Buffalo along with seventeen local restaurant and winery partners will be celebrating the local food chain by promoting menus using ingredients sourced from local growers and artisan producers.

“Many of our restaurant and winery partners already use locally sourced ingredients on their menus, so this is an opportunity to showcase their efforts,” says Lisa Tucker, publisher of Edible Buffalo. “We also want to continue to make the connection between farm and plate for consumers. With over 7500 farms in the eight county region, we cannot afford to ignore how important local agriculture is to our food economy.”

Free Summer Concerts Set at Burchfield Nature & Art Center Amphitheater

The Friends of Burchfield Nature and Art Center will host the 2011 Summer Concert Series. These free concerts in the park amphitheater will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28.

Vinnie DiRosa with Vitamin D will start off the concert series, which runs every Tuesday evening through Aug. 16. The concerts will feature a variety of music including jazz, soft rock, folk, country and bluegrass from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The Burchfield Park at 2001 Union Road in West Seneca is a perfect place to relax on a summer evening and enjoy good music. Bring a lawn chair for your comfort or just use the amphitheater seating. In case of rain, the concerts will be held at the West Seneca Senior Citizens Center at 4620 Seneca St.
