Annunciation Picnic to Take Place August 19-21

The annual Annunciation Church Picnic, a fun-filled family event featuring great food, rides, raffles, music, specialty booths and much more, will take place Aug. 19-21 on the parish grounds at 7580 Clinton St. in Elma. 

The fun kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, with a delicious fish fry, a classic car show from 6 to 9 p.m. and music by Hit ‘n Run from 7 to 11 p.m. under the beer tent.

Activities on Saturday, Aug. 20, will kick off at 1 p.m. and will include a pork chop dinner at 4 p.m., ride specials, and Irish/Celtic music by The Leftovers from 1 to 4 p.m. and country hits by the Whiskey River Band from 7 to 11 p.m. Both bands will perform under the beer tent. Volunteers will also be serving Annunciation’s famous clam chowder throughout the day!

NIAGARA FALLS, NY — Niagara County-area Tim Hortons Cafe & Bake Shops have created a distinctive sprinkled donut to help raise funds for the local non-profit, Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara.

The “Opportunities Unlimited Donut” is a traditional Tim Hortons Vanilla Dip donut topped with blue and white sprinkles to represent Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara’s signature colors. 

The donut will be available beginning August 1 through August 7. It retails for $.85 and 100 percent of the profits from each sold will go directly to Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara.

Nationally-Recognized Arts & Crafts Expert at Roycroft Inn

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Nationally-recognized Arts & Crafts expert and Buffalo native Paul Duchscherer will return to Western New York for a talk at the Roycroft Inn in East Aurora on Thursday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. The talk, titled “Outside the Bungalow: America’s Arts & Crafts Garden,” is part of the 2nd annual National Garden Festival and admission is $10.

Prior to the talk at 5:30 p.m., the Roycroft Inn will offer a special local meal. The menu will include charcuterie, farmers market vol-au-vent and a “Summer Craftsman” dessert for $25, including tax and tip.

EAST AURORA, N.Y.- Spend the day learning more about local Native American culture and art on Wednesday, July 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., as Explore & More Children’s Museum celebrates the Iroquois Day of Sharing. Funded by the New York State Council on the Arts Folk Art Program and Fisher- Price, the day’s activities will include several local Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) artists engaging your entire family in the traditions of their work – and even letting you try! 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Strawberry Workshop with Vivian Bradley.  Make strawberries out of felt just as a bead worker might do before they begin to work on a beaded image of one. The Haudenosaunee culture has long thought of the strawberry as a gift of the Creator.  It was one of the plants brought to this world by Sky Woman who is part of the creation story.

The medieval family fun and merriment for all continues this weekend, July 23 and 24, 11:00-4:00pm at Hawk Creek Wildlife Center’s Wild Renn Fest! Opening weekend on July 16 and 17 was a success as hundreds of event guests shared in the celebration of this 24th annual wildlife and renaissance festival. This Saturday and Sunday, however will be the crown jewel! The festival is highlighted by nationally renowned TV host Jarod Miller of Animal Exploration, the brave knights of Brothers in Arms Jousting, and the aerial acrobatics of free-flying birds during The Royal Tournament.
