Dog Ears Bookstore to Host Summer Reading & Writing Camp for Kids

 

As a part of their ongoing program to encourage literacy among all ages, Dog Ears Bookstore & The Enlightenment Literary Arts Center will again offer free sessions of their Summer Reading & Writing Camp for children in the Buffalo area.

Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature reading and writing activities, games and more, all of which align with Common Core and New York State Standards in education. Each session is limited to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

The first session, sponsored by South District Councilman Chris Scanlon, will take place on the following dates:

Ages 7 & 8: June 29 - July 3

Ages 9-11: July 6-10 

Ages 12 &13: July 13-17

The second session, sponsored by Erie County Youth Services, will take place on the following dates:

Ages 7 & 8: July 20-24

Ages 9-11: July 27-31 

Ages 12 &13: Aug. 3-7

Each day, participants will gather in the spacious Enlightenment Literary Arts Center on the upper floor of Dog Ears Bookstore for a morning activity. After a break for a brown bag lunch, they’ll regroup for an afternoon writing exercise. At the end of the week, each camper will bring home a portfolio containing their work.
