Play Ball! Historic Labatt Park Ready for Another Fun-filled Baseball Season

Many of us with an interest in baseball often have a greater interest in old ballparks and the history of our favorite pastime. If that’s the case, catching a London Majors game in historic Labatt Memorial Park in nearby London, Ontario, has to be on your baseball bucket list!

The London Majors have been part of Canada’s Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) since 1925, playing their home games in Labatt Park. Standing since 1877, Labatt Park has the distinction of being the world’s oldest ballpark in its original location!

In fact, Labatt Memorial Park hosted its very first game on May 3, 1877. The park has been owned by the City of London since 1936, with a new grandstand added for the 2001 Canada Games. Famous athletes who have played at the ballpark include George “Mooney” Gibson, Satchel Paige, Ferguson Jenkins, Lester B. Pearson and even hockey great Wayne Gretzky!  The field is maintained in pristine condition as a tribute to players past and present, is a true community treasure and worthy of the title of “Canada’s Favorite Ballpark.”

The 2014 London Majors home opener against Kitchener will take place on Friday, May 16. For more information, visit www.londonmajors.com. The ballpark is located at 25 Wilson Ave. in London.
