Celebrate with Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village this Holiday Season
Celebrate with Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village this Holiday Season

Is today’s hectic holiday experience a bit over commercialized for your taste? Beginning on Black Friday, Nov. 29, Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village invites visitors to come to the museum, at no charge, for the weekend’s opening celebration of the holiday season.

Featuring unique local vendors scattered throughout the museum, visitors will not have to worry about trampled toes or fighting Black Friday crowds this year. Guests may shop at their own pace as they enjoy live music of the season and sample food and wine tastings from Long Cliff Winery, while also enjoying BNHV’s newest exhibits.

But, Black Friday is just the start. While shopping will continue all weekend, on Saturday, Nov. 30, Countryside Christmas Tours will begin! Visitors will be guided through the village to four different homes along the grounds to admire the decorations and interact with village families as they go about their Christmas festivities. Kids will love hearing about St. Nick and learning how different 19th century Christmas was from what they now look forward to every year. Remember to bundle up in your warmest coat as this tour is an outdoor walking tour of Heritage Village! One-hour tours will be available Saturday, Nov. 30, and Sunday, Dec. 1, and will run every half-hour from noon to 3:30 p.m.

Carriage tours will also be available throughout the weekend! For a small donation, guests will board a horse-drawn carriage and be transported back to a time before cars and holiday traffic. Guests will learn about each building in the historic village and experience true 1850’s transportation. Hot cocoa and refreshments will be available for a small fee if guests are looking to warm up after their carriage ride. This tour is included at no extra charge with your Countryside Christmas Tour reservation.

As the festivities conclude on Sunday, Dec. 1, families are invited to enjoy Breakfast with Santa before their tours later in the day. For just $5 as a museum member or $7 as a “not yet member,” guests will enjoy pancakes and sausage in the Main Room as children pose with Santa and tell him what they’d like this Christmas.

Tickets for Countryside Christmas Tours and Breakfast with Santa can be purchased at www.bnhv.org/tickets-tours or by calling 689-1440. Heritage Village is located at 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road, Amherst.

We look forward to celebrating the holiday season with you!
