Town of Aurora's Winterfest Runs Through Feb. 27

by Renee T. Engels

There is nothing unusual about a parade in Western New York. But a parade in the middle of February? With pets in costumes?

The costumed pet parade is only one of the dozens of events being held this year at the annual Town of Aurora Winterfest. The parade begins in front of Paws in the Pantry on Sun., Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. and proceeds down the sidewalk of Main Street to the Absolut Care of Aurora Park. There, all participants, pets included, will delight the residents of the facility by parading throughout the hallways and showing off their costumes. The event is free with any donations of new pet treats or toys to be donated to the SPCA of Erie County.

by Jeremy Morlock and Julie Hadley

From 1989 to 1991, the name Justin Gomlak could be found in programs for local school musical productions. The name may have changed – he’s now known as Justin Greer – but the East Aurora High School graduate’s enthusiasm for the stage is still strong.

Greer, a Broadway performer who has appeared in “Shrek the Musical,” “The Producers,” “Urban Cowboy” and “Annie Get Your Gun,” visited his old high school on Monday to meet with the students involved in the production of “Seussical,” which opens Friday. It’s a show close to his heart; Greer was part of the original Broadway cast.
