EA Co-op Reaches Major Milestone

Open House Planned to Celebrate 500 Member-Owners

In only 18 months and launching on nothing but a promise, the East Aurora Cooperative Market, Inc., has evolved from a topic of discussion over coffee among friends to an incorporated entity with an eight-member board of directors, nearly 50 volunteers and more than 500 members.  The first 500 member-owners, known as Seed Members, was a milestone reached on April 23.

To celebrate this 500-member milestone, a community celebration is slated for Wednesday, May 25 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the co-op’s business office, at 618 Main St. in East Aurora.

Dog Walk and Yard Sale Events Highlight Pet Connection June Calendar

Pet Connection Programs Inc., a nonprofit maternity and special care animal shelter located in Marilla, has several community events planned throughout the month of June. The shelter has been placing animals into loving homes throughout Western New York since 1984.

Pet Connection’s sixth annual “Tails on the Trails” dog walk will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Como Lake Park Casino in Lancaster. In addition to the dog walk, there will be contests, raffles, a basket auction, vendors and a cookout. Other activities and demonstrations include a “good citizen” dog test, pet blessing, pet psychic, pet first aid, dog agility and much more.

Lacrosse Team Dedicates Senior Game to Long-Time Supporter

BUFFALO, NYThe East Aurora High School Lady Blue Devils lacrosse team celebrated more than just their senior game against West Seneca West on Friday, April 29th.  Students, staff, and community members joined together for the third year in a row to commemorate the life and legacy of long-time supporter, Michael Schafer.

Mike was a strong supporter of East Aurora lacrosse programs serving as President of the booster club and member of the Board of Directors.  With his leadership and fundraising abilities Mike assisted the program by helping to provide scholarships for athletes to attend lacrosse camps, play in the winter league and have indoor preseason practice time.  With his help, the program grew from one club team of varsity boys to four teams - varsity and junior varsity boys and girls - plus two club teams at the modified level.  As a lacrosse dad, Mike could often be found on the sidelines cheering on his son, David (class of ’0

WEST SENECA, NY – One local nonprofit organization is once again serving up chicken dinners for a cause.

KidsPeace Foster Care and Community Programs will host their annual Chiavetta’s Chicken BBQ Fundraiser on Thursday, May 19th from 12:45pm – 5:30pm at their offices located at 4184 Seneca St.

A local fundraiser that benefits children in foster care, this event makes smiles possible for local foster care children and families each holiday season when KidsPeace hosts their annual Holiday Party.

Fillmore Museum will Host Tea for Prospective Guides

The Millard Fillmore House Museum, 24 Shearer Ave. in East Aurora, is looking for volunteer guides for the 2011 season. The museum hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, from June to October. “Helping us bring history alive for our many guests with a tour of our charming presidential house can be rewarding and a joy,” organizers noted.

A Guide’s Tea at the Fillmore House will be held for all prospective guides on Wed., May 11 at 7 p.m. This will be followed with a training and orientation session on Sat., May 14 at 10 a.m. at the museum. Contact Kathy Frost (652-2621) with questions about guiding or the reception.

Annunciation School to Host Comedy Night

Annunciation School to Host Comedy Night

A Comedy Night featuring the local comedy group Eclectic Improv will take place on Saturday, May 7, at Annunciation School in Elma, located at 7580 Clinton St. Proceeds from the event will be used to offset the cost of a new gym floor at the school.

The event will also feature a basket, silent and live auction. Snacks and beverages will be available. Tickets are available in the school office or by calling 681-1327. Adults only.

Annunciation, which boasts a growing sports program, currently serves children in Pre-K3 through Grade 8 from the Alden, Alexander, Attica, East Aurora, Cheektowaga, Depew, Iroquois, Lancaster, Orchard Park and West Seneca school districts.
