There is nothing unusual about a parade in Western New York. But a parade in the middle of February? With pets in costumes?

The costumed pet parade is only one of the dozens of events being held this year at the annual Town of Aurora Winterfest. The parade begins in front of Paws in the Pantry on Sun., Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. and proceeds down the sidewalk of Main Street to the Absolut Care of Aurora Park. There, all participants, pets included, will delight the residents of the facility by parading throughout the hallways and showing off their costumes. The event is free with any donations of new pet treats or toys to be donated to the SPCA of Erie County.

The yearly Winterfest event kicks off on Fri., Feb. 18 and is 10 fun-filled days of family activities, nightlife, music, exercise and entertainment.

Peggy Cooke, director of the Department of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Aurora, stated that the pet parade is just one of many free events being offered this year.
