Members of Vets HERD (Helping Empower Returning and Disabled Veterans) invite Western New Yorkers to enjoy an evening of wine and chocolate tastings, entertainment and prizes – all to assist area veterans.

The group will hold its Wine Tasting and Chocolate Night from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Avezzano’s, 204 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga. The evening will feature wines presented by Black Willow Winery, Lindt Chocolate tastings, refreshments and entertainment by Ray Wood, with proceeds going to the organization. Tickets are $25 each and will be available at the door.

Sponsors of the event include Alice Magierski, Cheektowaga town clerk; Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak; Cassillo Development; Charlie Markel, Cheektowaga councilman; Diane Benczkowski, candidate for Cheektowaga Town Council; Dualex Office Products; Hogs & Heroes NY 3; James Rogowski, Cheektowaga councilman; Patrick McPartland Photography; Scott Escobar, representative of the Buffalo Police Motorcycle Unit; Steven Kellerman, CEO, Armed Forces Soldier Bands; and Tom Bender’s Flying Solo Music Show.

Founded in 2010, the mission of Vets HERD is to ensure that no veteran or service member is forgotten upon returning from duty while rallying for the resources that our country’s heroes deserve. The non-profit organization serves veterans and current servicemen and women and their families from across Western New York, helping them to understand what benefits to which they are entitled and directing them to services, either through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or other agencies.

The Wine Tasting and Chocolate Night also will include a basket raffle and 50/50 split. Businesses and individuals hoping to make a donation may do so by Friday, Feb. 22. For more information or to make a donation, call 901-0773 or visit www.vetsherd.com or www.facebook.com/Vetsherd.
