Daemen Launches New Certificate in Executive Leadership

AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen College will launch in January a new advanced certificate program in executive leadership and change (ELC), which is designed to prepare working professionals for leadership positions in business, health professions, higher education, and nonprofit organizations.

“This new advanced certificate program will offer students a great opportunity to develop essential leadership skills and build competencies in areas that will be beneficial to career advancement,” said Dr. John S. Frederick, executive director of the Daemen Center for Executive Leadership and Change. “With this advanced training, students will be better positioned to take on leadership roles and be more marketable in the workplace.”

The certificate program, which has been approved by the New York State Department of Education, will be offered as an 18-credit-hour curriculum. Courses will educate students on leadership practices, creative problem solving, ethics, organizational change, and other foundational areas. Offered in the evening to accommodate working professionals, the broad-based classes are intended to expand a student’s leadership capacity and abilities in initiating and sustaining change.

For students, the interdisciplinary program will provide for a seamless transition from the ELC certificate into Daemen’s well-established ELC master’s degree program.

As Dr. Michael Brogan, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, noted, “By adding the advanced certificate program at Daemen, we’re building on the success of our existing ELC master’s degree and exposing students to the fundamentals offered in our graduate-level program. Professionally, it will be highly beneficial to students whether they complete the certificate program or decide to go on to pursue a master’s degree.”
