A viewer has added some terrific new pictures to our Downtown Buffalo community website.

If you have photos taken in Western New York you'd like to share with a couple hundred-thousand of your friends and neighbors, send them to neighborhoods@wgrz.com.

You can also create a new gallery of your own on any of our 17 WGRZ-2 Your Town community websites. Ask for details.

Just Buffalo Literary Center Working to Raise $5,000 by Aug. 31st to Publish "Wordplay"

Buffalo, NY—Just Buffalo Literary Center can hear the clock ticking. By 5 PM on August 31st, they need to raise $5,000 to help students in Western New York see themselves in print. Just Buffalo is partnering with Kickstarter -- the internet pledging website for creative projects -- to support the publication of Wordplay, the annual anthology of student writing which highlights the most powerful work from the organization's K-12 writers-in-education program.

Geology Hike at Kenneglenn Nature Preserve

On Saturday, August 20, from 10am til noon, the Western New York Land Conservancy will be offering a hike through the Kenneglenn Nature Preserve in Varysburg.

Led by Stan Radon, this hike features views of the gorge walls and a beautiful waterfall. Please be prepared to walk in the creek with shoes that have great traction. This is a great family hike on a hot August day. Please register early as this hike fills to capacity very quickly. Hike leader Stan Radon has been a geologist with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for 20 years. He also teaches geology and environmental studies at SUNY Buffalo, Buffalo State College, and Daemen College.

Journey to Perform at Darien Lake on August 10

Journey, one of the most popular American rock bands of all time, will perform at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, August 10. 

The legendary band recently hit the road for a two-year worldwide tour to promote their lastest album, Eclipse, which debuted at #13 on Billboard's Hot 200. Journey's fourteenth studio album, released May 24, is the second to feature new lead singer Arnel Pineda.

"Attending a Goo Goo Dolls concert during the summer has become a rite of passage for Western New Yorkers. The Goos made their annual return to Darien Lake Performing Arts Center on Friday, July 29.

Shortly after 9 p.m., the hometown crowd erupted into cheers as their heroes hit the stage to kick off their 90 minute set. After opening with new track Last Hot Night in America, the Goo Goo Dolls got down to business jumping into fan favorites Slide and Here is Gone.... "

Nationally-Recognized Arts & Crafts Expert at Roycroft Inn

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Nationally-recognized Arts & Crafts expert and Buffalo native Paul Duchscherer will return to Western New York for a talk at the Roycroft Inn in East Aurora on Thursday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. The talk, titled “Outside the Bungalow: America’s Arts & Crafts Garden,” is part of the 2nd annual National Garden Festival and admission is $10.

Prior to the talk at 5:30 p.m., the Roycroft Inn will offer a special local meal. The menu will include charcuterie, farmers market vol-au-vent and a “Summer Craftsman” dessert for $25, including tax and tip.
