Russ is Chosen as Acting Superintendent for East Aurora Schools

by Jeremy Morlock

The East Aurora School Board voted 6-0 on Wed., Jan. 12 to named Brian Russ as acting superintendent effective Feb. 19. Russ, who has been serving as the district’s chief information officer, will take over for Superintendent James Bodziak, who has accepted a post at the Frontier Central School District.

Asked about his goals as acting superintendent, Russ told the Advertiser that preparing the 2011-2012 school budget would be a priority. “We’re going to be facing some pretty serious issues” in light of the state’s financial situation and expected changes in school aid, Russ noted.

“It’s going to be working with teachers, administrators and support staff to figure out how we can do things differently and still maintain that quality that we’re committed to,” he explained. “There’s going to be a lot of communication, involving the parents and community members, so that they understand the things that we need to do to balance our budget and maintain our programming.”
