Hamburg resident Blake McLimans was redshirted at Michigan last season so he could learn more about what it takes to succeed at the Division I level. This year, it’s a different story.

McLimans, a 6-foot 10-inch, 240-pound forward who wears number 22 for the Michigan Wolverines, spent his off-season training at Primordial Strength Inc. in East Aurora with Steven Helmicki, president of the local fitness training company. Today, McLimans is a big contributor to his 10-2 team, averaging 7.7 minutes, 1.9 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.

“Blake is an intense worker who is extremely eager in the weight room and always applying it back to the game,” said Helmicki. “He understands the systemized approach to basketball strength training and he gives 100 percent. He’s truly a great athlete who is only going to get better as his speed strength improves.”
