Libraries Will Change, But Avoid Deeper Cuts

Hours and services at East Aurora area libraries will see some changes under the 2011 operating budget for the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library. However, the changes will not be as serious as was once feared, since Erie County has restored $3 million of the $4 million that was to have been cut from the library budget.

"We are hoping for a seamless transition, and most of the faces should remain the same," said Aurora Public Library Director Lee Ainsworth-Mahaney about her branch.

Before the money was reinstated in late December, each branch was expected to lose staff, hours and community programs. Several positions will still be lost, as will some programs, but for the most part the libraries "dodged the bullet," Ainsworth-Mahaney said.
