WSBU reaches top 10 in mtvU contest; online voting goes until March 1 to determine winner

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - WSBU, St. Bonaventure University's student-run campus radio station, is now one of 10 finalists for mtvU's 2011 College Radio Woodie Award.

A college-oriented member of the MTV family, mtvU first narrowed its list of 50 nominated college stations to 25 with online voting from Feb. 1-8, and then pared the list of 25 to 10 with voting that concluded Feb. 15.

Annually among The Princeton Review's top 5 college radio stations, WSBU now has a chance to be named the nation's top college station and be recognized at the sixth annual mtvU Woodie Awards March 16, airing at midnight on MTV, MTV2 and mtvU from the Austin Music Hall in Austin, Texas.

Listeners can vote online - as many times as they like - until March 1.

Town of Aurora's Winterfest Runs Through Feb. 27

by Renee T. Engels

There is nothing unusual about a parade in Western New York. But a parade in the middle of February? With pets in costumes?

The costumed pet parade is only one of the dozens of events being held this year at the annual Town of Aurora Winterfest. The parade begins in front of Paws in the Pantry on Sun., Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. and proceeds down the sidewalk of Main Street to the Absolut Care of Aurora Park. There, all participants, pets included, will delight the residents of the facility by parading throughout the hallways and showing off their costumes. The event is free with any donations of new pet treats or toys to be donated to the SPCA of Erie County.

Local Medical Professionals Comment on New First Aid Cap for Kids

What are local medical professionals saying about Cool Gel ’n Cap, the first aid cap brought to market by Western New Yorker Timothy Panicali, the company’s president and product co-inventor?

“Cool Gel ’n Cap is a practical, user and kid friendly device which can ease our little patients’ pain from head bumps, headaches or earaches,” said Dr. Robert Schulman, a pediatrician with Forestream Pediatrics in Depew. “The concept is genuinely well thought out and should be a value to parents.”

“The ‘Toby’ Cool Gel ’n Cap is a welcome addition to help our children get the appropriate local care for the lumps and bumps they get day to day,” said Dr. Shawn Cotton of East Aurora Family Practice.

How to Make Your Car Last Forever: Auto Q&A with Tom Torbjornsen

How to Make Your Car Last Forever: Auto Q&A with Tom Torbjornsen

Dear Tom,

I own a 2007 Buick Lucerne. During humid mornings or evenings moisture accumulates on the windows as soon as I start the car. Activating the defroster does no good. If I put the defroster on high blower and the heat on high, then eventually the windshield will clear. At times even the rear window will fog up. What’s up with this?

Paul from Buffalo
