National Education Blogger Says Bullying Initiatives Won't Work

National Education Blogger Says Bullying Initiatives Won't Work

Christopher Emdin of The Huffington Post took a controversial stance in his blog yesterday, explaining what he believes are the 5 Major Reasons that the latest anti-bullying efforts won't work.

His reasons are as follows:

  • The Zero-Tolerance Theory Backfires
  • Avoiding Social Media Is NOT A Solution
  • We Address Bullying with Celebrity, Not Expertise
  • We Forget that the Bullied And The Bully Are Both Children
  • We Turn A Blind Eye To Adult Bullying

Edmin cites the deaths of Williamsville teen Jamey Rodemeyer and Rutgers student Tyler Clementi as the main catalysts for the new push to resolve the bullying issue.

Benefit for David Ross and the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge

On Sunday, October 23, 2011, a benefit is to be held in the Armor Fire Hall at 4932 Clark Street, Hamburg for the purpose of raising money to offset the medical expenses recently incurred during cancer treatment by the family of David Ross and to financially support the American Cancer Society’s goal to renovate or build a new Buffalo Hope Lodge. David’s treatment in New York City was not covered by his health insurance and only with the help of the Hope Lodge in NYC was the family able to proceed with the treatment.  Hope Lodge is a facility that provides free lodging to out of town cancer patients receiving treatment.
